Many parents have concerns about their child’s development but do not know who to ask or if their concern is valid. There is a huge range of childhood developmental patterns which can make “knowing” even more challenging. What is certain is if your child does have a developmental weakness then waiting only creates more challenge for the child and frustration and/or worry for the parent.

Occupational Therapy
Helps develop the skills in children that will help him or her succeed later in life, including motor and social skills. If your child struggles to develop these skills on his or her own, one of our occupational therapists will help your child through the process. Speech & Language Therapy
If you want to be proactive and help your baby meet communication milestones OR if you are already concerned about your child’s speech and language development… let us be your first line of defense. The speech therapist will work with your child to improve speech and language skills, and show you what to do at home to help your child. Our team of dedicated speech therapists specializes in the prevention, assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of speech, language, and communication disorders in children. If you are concerned about your child’s communication development, let us work together with you and your child to help improve their communication skills and proactively reach speech and language milestones.

Psychiatry
The child and adolescent psychiatrist uses a knowledge of biological, psychological, and social factors in working with patients. A comprehensive diagnostic examination is performed to evaluate the current problem with attention to its physical, genetic, developmental, emotional, cognitive, educational, family, peer, and social components.
Child Psychiatry focuses on the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of mental disorders in children. Our psychiatrists commit to providing comprehensive care beginning with a thorough examination, considering several factors from genetics to social context- and everything in between. Furthermore, we seek to provide treatment and education that considers all these components considering the challenges of being a military family, therefore providing the best continuity of care.

Online Therapy/Telemedicine
The advantages of online and teletherapy services for children with families stationed overseas are numerous. Not only can sessions be conducted easily over the internet, but they also provide an opportunity to address occupational therapy needs that may not otherwise be accessible.
Furthermore, online therapy eliminates the need for travelling, which is beneficial for those families with limited time and resources. It also allows for sessions to be conducted in a comfortable environment; children who may feel anxious or overwhelmed in clinical settings may find an online setting more accommodating. With teletherapy, our licensed clinicians are equipped to provide comprehensive care tailored to each individual’s specific needs.

Joy Center provides has regular webinars and educational opportunities offered by Dr. Amy Zier, a specialist in child development and parent/family relationships.
Additionally, we have annual holiday community events to support American children and families living overseas. Throughout the year we also create innovative programming opportunities. Children are able to engage with activities that promote physical, cognitive, and social development. With individualized programs designed just for them, children learn to use their newly acquired skills in meaningful contexts. Our team of licensed clinicians provide personalized care throughout the entire process, making sure each child is supported and nurtured every step of the way. We believe in providing an engaging and positive environment for our kids to practice their skills, build confidence, and develop a greater sense of self-efficacy.
